Municipal Wastewater Rapid Recovery Project from Heavy Metal Shock

Solution:By applying MicroMotion®-N and MicroMotion®-Den,the biological treatment system was rapidly restored after heavy metal shock, ensuring compliant effluent discharge.

Processing Scale:100000m³/d

Treatment Effect:System stabilized within 1 week, with effluent meeting discharge standards.

Characteristics

Large fluctuations in influent flow

Plant Profile

Description

Due to excessive concentrations of heavy metals such as nickel and cobalt in the wastewater, the on-site biological treatment system completely collapsed and lost all degradation capability.

Option

The biological treatment system was restored following on-site bench-scale testing. The key steps included:

1. Tank cleaning and sludge removal

2. Gradual influent reintroduction

3. Seeding with activated sludge

4. Dosing with MicroMotion®-N and MicroMotion®-Den.

Note: During nitrification startup, alkalinity is rapidly consumed, while the denitrification process has not yet resumed. Therefore, sodium carbonate (soda ash) was added to supplement the deficient alkalinity.

Result

After dosing with MicroMotion®-N, the effluent ammonia nitrogen dropped to 1mg/L within 3 days.

Following the addition of MicroMotion®-Den, the total nitrogen removal rate reached up to 90% within 3 days.
