Petrochemical Wastewater Treatment Systems Rapid Recovery from Shock-Loaded

Solution:Utilized MicroMotion®-N,to address shock loads on the nitrification system caused by high concentrations of styrene, acrylonitrile, and other components in the influent.

Processing Scale:8500m³/d

Treatment Effect:Ammonia nitrogen in the effluent from the biological tank was reduced to below 5 mg/L.

Characteristics

1.1. Key Pollutants:

Styrene, acrylonitrile, toluene, ethylbenzene, petroleum hydrocarbons, total chromium, total nickel, etc

1.2 Key Characteristics

High salinity

High organic nitrogen

 High total nitrogen

High ammonia nitrogen

Complex influent composition

Option

1. Conducted data analysis and confirmed that elevated concentrations of toxic substances (e.g., free ammonia) were inhibiting nitrifying bacterial activity.

2. Reduced influent flow and selectively applied oxic holding to stabilize the system.

3. Ensured sufficient system alkalinity (alkalinity > 7.14 times the ammonia nitrogen concentration), maintained aerobic dissolved oxygen above 2 mg/L, and kept pH between 8.0 and 8.5.

4. Dosed 400 kg of MicroMotion®-N to restore and strengthen nitrification capacity.

Result

After corresponding adjustments, the ammonia nitrogen removal rate reached 99%, with effluent ammonia nitrogen consistently maintained below 5 mg/L, meeting discharge standards and restoring system operation.
